Forest Stream - Sign To Candlelight Records

Official Candlelight Records press release:

Forest Stream was founded in 1995 by Sonm (drums, keys, vocals) & Omin (guitars, bass) in a small Russian town called Chernogolovka, 40 km north-east of Moscow. From the very beginning their goal was to create the music that would capture the beauty and magic of existence at the same time showing its triviality, misery, and despair.

The duo worked only together at the beginning, but soon other members started to join and an embryonic full band started to take shape. Silent Anth began to help Forest Stream as bass player, and he quickly became a permanent fixture.

In 1999 this line-up recorded the first demo, "Snowfall". Influenced by the pioneers of the UK doom scene, but complete with a blackened edge, their music expressed deep sorrow and hopelessness of the existence on this pitiable planet.

The second demo, "Last Season Purity" was recorded in 2000 and subsequently uploaded to mp3.com. Thus Forest Stream was introduced to the foreign listeners for the first time.

The year 2002 was marked by serious rearrangements in the line-up: Elhella joined to play drums and Berserk joined as guitar player. Forest Stream also got a record deal for four albums from Elitist records. To get the first album, "Tears of Mortal Solitude", done the band had to withstand quite a number of unpleasant events such as equipment theft, destruction of their rehearsal rooms, and the least expected—Sonm's departure to the Netherlands where he enrolled to a Ph.D. course in physics. Despite all difficulties, the album was still recorded and released at the beginning of 2003 to universal plaudits from press and public alike.

With the release of the full-length album the band got more opportunities to play live and that is when the line-up problems had to be solved. Elhella was shifted to play keys, Kir joined to play drums and T.Moloch was the new bass-man. This coincided with band's morphing towards more aggressive touches in their music due to growing influences of the dark Masters—Emperor; as well as getting more technically advanced following the example of Sweden's Opeth.

Around this time, among various headline concerts throughout Russia and the Ukraine, Forest Stream played a show with Cradle Of Filth and joined Katatonia during their tour in Russia.

Four years passed since the release of their first album. Unfortunately, Elitist records ceased its existence so Forest Stream were looking for a new deal parallel to working on the new material. When Forest Stream were thinking over several offers, Candlelight records suddenly proposed a three-album deal and Forest Stream happily accepted it.
The material for the second album, The Crown of Winter, is shaping up to be something remarkable and truly worth listening to. Mixing duties are to be handled by Brett Caldas-Lima (To-Mera, Kalisia, etc). Taking the symphonic and epic overload of the Norwegian black metal scene and combining it with a seriously emotional core of classic doom, Forest Stream's unique take on the genre is set to explode.

Biomechanical - Announce New Bassist

Following the completion of their new album "Cannibalised" Biomechanical have also completed their line up, with the addition of ex-DragonForce bassist Adrian Lambert.

A blog posted on the band's MySpace page goes as follows:

"We are very happy to announce that the Biomechanical line-up is now complete with the addition of bassist Adrian Lambert! Adrian also plays with Son of Science and has also played for Dragonforce and Intense. His fast and furious bass style is exactly what the band was looking for! The band will get together soon and will get ready for touring the new Biomechanical album Cannibalised (out Feb 2008)."

Biomechanical frontman John K commented the following:

"Its no secret that its a bit of a bitch to find good bass players and I was thrilled when Adrian contacted me. I also had people from Europe and the UK applying for the job and some of them were of very high standards . But after checking Adrian's playing I realized the logical next step would be to welcome him to the band!"

Adrian stated:

"Its really exciting to be playing with a world-class act like Biomechanical. I've been into the band since I got The Empires of the Worlds album back when I was still playing in DragonForce, so it's quite incredible for me to be playing with Biomechanical now. John K's assembled an insanely talented new line-up - he's had to get the best because of the complexity and scope of the new album Cannibalised."

Commenting further on the band's third album, which is set for a February 2008 release date, Adrian states:

"You've got the bombastic film score stuff, you've got the crushing extreme metal riffs and solos… Hell, you've even got some heart-breaking vocal melodies in there as well as John's trademark screams! I think there's more of a groove to this album than 'Eight Moons' and 'Empires….' but it's also even more extreme and brutal than previous releases. I feel that Biomechanical are breaking a lot of boundaries with Cannibalised and I'm proud to be a part of the team taking this album out on the road".

Korpiklaani - Yet Another New Album In The Works

On their MySpace blog, the Finnish Folk Metal band posted the following message:

"We have been in the studio again every now and then since last spring, and we have more material ready than is needed for an entire album. It is already mixed and ready.
The album became quite long, but we just could not drop any of the 14 songs. It was already hard to decide which songs would become bonus tracks.
So, we offer to you 14 new songs plus 2 bonus tracks on our upcoming album "Korven Kuningas", which means 'King of the Woods'
This time the album cover will be painted, not photoshopped. The old man "Vaari" will be figuring on the cover again, so it will look familiar and faithful to everyone, even though a different technique is used."

The album will be released by Nuclear Blast early in 2008.

Kamelot - New Video "The Human Stain" Launched

Taken from the official newsletter:

"Kamelot is pleased to launch their fantastic second video for the song "The Human Stain" from the album "Ghost Opera". Click here to watch the video."

Atrocity - Album Update

The following message was posted on Atrocity's official website:

"Finally the waiting has an end! The new Atrocity album Werk 80 II will be released at the 8th February 2008.

Alex Krull: "On the 8th February 2008 Werk 80 II is gonna be released. A quite fitting date as we find! To be serious, we took a lot of time for the production to get the best result. All friends of the first Werk 80 will like the second one too. This time we have worked together with an orchestra and a choir. So the whole album has gained a bit more of a classical touch which I personally like a lot. Everything sounds very harmonic and organic. The work on this album has been intense and thrilling. On the first Werk 80 album we also used classical elements but we enforced this on the new one. Thus the electronic parts got moved a little bit into the background. We didn't want to do the same on this successive album but including new elements and developing our style. I promise you Werk 80 II is gonna be a class of its own worth waiting for it."

As on the first Werk 80 release the following up contains mega hits of the 80ies. Pictures from the choir recording sessions you will find here. The coverartwork will be a delicious case indeed. Alex continues: "This time we got a very special covermodel - we couldn't have chosen any better. The whole artwork is state of the art and dark at the same time. We won't say more at this moment."

In november there will be released an online single, check out further news!"

Edguy - North American Date Cancelled

The German melodic metallers of Edguy have posted the following statement in their official site:

Edguy apologizes for this and are working to fix all problems so they can play the tour as planned. Edguy is not responsible for this, as there was no chance to even do a 30% show.

Technical Death Metal whirlwind Decapitated issue a limited edition version of their dramatic "Winds Of Creation" debut album on October 8, complete with bonus DVD.

Municipal Waste - Video Banned From YouTube

The video for the Municipal Waste track 'Headbanger Face Rip' has been banned by You Tube. Filmed by the legendary 80s cult splatter/horror independent film company Troma Entertainment, the 'gore version' of the recording has been deemed by You Tube to have content which is inappropriate.

This banned version of the track features the legendary Troma style blood, guts and gore seen in many of their genre-defining B-movie style shock flicks, which fit well with Municipal Waste's outrageous party attitude. Fans who still want to watch this controversial version of the track can still view it online here and the TV-friendly recording can still be viewed on YouTube here.

Korpiklaani - Sign With Nuclear Blast

The following news has been posted on Nuclear Blast site:

The Finnish Folk-Metal tribe of Korpiklaani are the latest addition to the Nuclear Blast familiy! The guys have signed a worldwide contract and we are all looking forward to the upcoming releases of this outstanding band. The six guys coming directly from the woods have issued the following statement about this joyful occasion:

"Once upon a time were the merry men of Korpiklaani on a tour somewhere in Europe, drinking beer in the bus on the road from here to there. Between the beers there was also some talk about our future. On the small bus table, half hidden under the dog-eared deck of cards, coins and empty bottles, there was a Blast! magazine. This catalogue of Nuclear Blast had seen better days. It had already served as a beermat, ashtray and toilet entertainment, even though the language was totally incomprehensible to us.

Our highly intelligent conversation moved to record companies and we started to wonder which one of them would be the best for us. Jonne happened to set his bleary eyes on the scruffy magazine and asked if anyone knew any band that had left Nuclear Blast. There was a silence.
No one knew and we saw that it was good. That's when we first got the idea that Nuclear Blast would actually be a great company for us as well. It must be a good home for bands because no one ever leaves. The idea of us and them still felt distant and unrealistic.

As the time passed, our small and ugly Folk Metal band gained more success, slowly but steadily, and played more and more concerts. And behold, one day we got a word from our own chargé d'affaires, Matte, that one of the best is interested in us, Nuclear Blast.

Our first meeting was in Germany, the land of... eh... well, Germans. We were prepared to meet bald, fat businessmen in their black three-piece suits with briefcases full of contract papers. We couldn't find any. Instead of that there some smiling folkmetal loving fellows with pints in their hands. And then we heard the magic words: "You guys want some beer?"

Hatesphere - Replace Guitarist

Danish Thrashers Hatesphere have issued the following statement on their official website:

"Heinz [Henrik Jacobsen] is no longer part of HateSphere. The decision was made long time ago, and we have therefore known it for a long time. There is no bad blood in the split - Heinz simply don't like the touring part of music anymore - so we want to thank him for a great time in the band and wish him the best of luck in the future.
No need to worry as we have found a more than fitting replacement. Jakob [Nyholm] from fellow Danish metallers, Dawn of Demise + Koldborn, is taking over the guitar duty in the band emidiately. We have known Jakob for a long time, and we are looking forward to finally hitting the big stages with him! Welcome to the band!
Your first chances to see him in action will be on our upcoming tours with Behemoth and Dimmu Borgir. Jakob has already played a show in Essen(DE) with us - watch the video here. /Hatesphere

Heinz' official statement:
At the 25th of August I played my last show with Hatesphere at the Elsrock Festival in Holland. The reason that Im leaving Hatesphere after 5+ years of hard work and boozin' fun on the road is simply that its time for me to try new things in life. It was probably one of the hardest decisions I ever took, but I know that this is the right choice for me and the band. Life is all about being true to yourself and do what you love doing right now.
My time in Hatesphere has given me so many great moments with the guys in the band and all the people who belive in us and came to our shows during the past 5 years. So a big cheers and thank you to all the bands I've toured with, all you fans who came out to join the party with us, but most of all to my friends Bredahl, Pepe, Mixen, Gyldenøhr, Mikael, Dennis, Mads, Tue, Rasmus and Tolderen for all the good times we´ve shared on the road and in the studio. /Heinz"

"Again some time has passed since the previous update and we have been busy writing the new album. We are set to record in Studio E in Germany from October 1st to 14th, bring it home and then master it. Four songs complete at the moment and 3 more in the pipeline, titles include 'The Burning Man', 'Primeval Rush' and 'The Sickness'. Another labyrinthine journey through some torturous doom as the album should have a running time over an hour.

We have had the pictures from Bamberg up for some time but no report and believe me it is probably better we didn't report...everything was great for the gig, sold out venue, some great support bands and loads of beer..thats where the problem started for one or two members, suffice to say we didn't cover ourselves in glory and so we agreed with the organisers to make up for our drunken performance by playing at this years Way of Darkness festival on the 5th and 6th of October www.wod-festival.de. We should be on stage mid afternoon on Saturday and we will save the drunkenness for afterwards. December should see us play Greece again but we are not cpnfirmed yet so watch this space. As regards touring plans are forming through our booking agent and previous bass player, Adrian through Lugga Productions www.luggamusic.com and we should be heading out for a week at the end of March.

We are now on my space too http://www.myspace.com/mourningbeloveth and we will add photos to it of all our upcoming shows for those to lazy to go to the website.

As for merchandise we still have some AMC shirts with tour dates on the back. Hopefully we will have a re print of all AMC merch by the end of the summer.'

FALL OF SERENITY: New Album Title Announced - Sep. 4, 2007

German melodic death/thrash metal outfit FALL OF SERENITY has set "The Crossfire" as the title of its new album, due on November 19 via Lifeforce Records. The CD will include an exclusive video clip for the song "Knife To Meet You".

Commented singer John Gahlert: "We have worked hard to have these new circumstances within the band. There's a new spirit we feel, pushing us forward into a slightly different and thrilling destination. 'The Crossfire' is our statement against musical boundaries and bigotry. Working with Dan Swanö (hail to the king!) was another new piece in the puzzle and it perfectly fits to the aura of our sound. After Leif Jensen (DEW-SCENTED) appeared on the last album 'Bloodred Salvation', we forced female metal icon Sabina Classen (HOLY MOSES, TEMPLE OF THE ABSURD) to be part of the new record...with fantastic result, she has a great and authentic voice. We are really looking forward to the things to come."

The first webisode from the making of the album can be viewed below.

Rob Zombie Halloween remake explodes!

Classic horror remake breaks opening w/e records

According to SlashFilm.com, Rob Zombie's remake of the 1978 horror classic "Halloween" has exploded for an estimated $10.5 million at the box office in the United States on Friday (August 31), and it's headed for a three-day of $30 million and a spectacular four-day Labor Day weekend of $35.775 million. This will easily be the best three-day opening weekend of the nine-film Michael Myers franchise.

Top three-day opening weekends for Michael Myers movies:

01. "Halloween" (2007) - $30M (projected)
02. "Halloween: H2O" (1998) - $16.1M
03. "Halloween: Resurrection" (2002) - $12.2M
04. "Halloween II" (1981) - $7.4M
05. "Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers" (1995) - $7.3M

Also as expected, Michael Myers has become the all-time No. 4 grossing "killer" franchise in modern box office history, surpassing Jigsaw from the "Saw" trilogy and trailing only Hannibal Lecter, Jason ("Friday the Thirteenth") and Freddy Krueger.

Zombie has scored successes with low-budget slasher flicks "House Of 1,000 Corpses" ($12.6 million in domestic receipts) and "The Devil's Rejects" ($17 million cumulative box office gross).

Marilyn Manson interview

More quote from the dark duke of bizarre on his marriage, new lady and Slayer

Ben Wener of The Orange County Register recently conducted an interview with Marilyn Manson. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:

On having to "confirm" during his marriage to Dita Von Teese:

"I started to feel bad about being me. I started to feel like I had to turn me off somehow, to prove that I fit into this convention I know now didn't suit me properly. . . I don't necessarily think I couldn't be married again. I think that I assumed — and it was me projecting my idea of romance onto Dita — that she believed in things the same way I did. I think we got to a point where she was feeling like, 'Well, I assumed you would eventually grow out of this.' And I'm saying, 'But this is me.' My marriage started to transform into something that was too concerned with the rest of the world, with how it would get portrayed in Vogue magazine — and that sort of thing was exactly what I had fought hard to stand against. But I got lost between love and belief in myself. I didn't know who I was supposed to be anymore."

"I'm absolutely not looking for someone who agrees with me about everything, or someone who wants to please me by believing what I believe. But I need the same dark romantic yearning. I had been watching all these movies, like 'True Romance' and 'Harold and Maude' and 'The Hunger' and 'Bonnie and Clyde', and I started wondering where that sort of feeling had gone. I thought that was where I was at in my life, and I couldn't understand why I didn't feel that same fearlessness."

On regaining his confidence after starting a romantic relationship with actress Evan Rachel Wood, who at 19 is half Manson's age:

"For me the key to longevity — and immortality, in a sense — has to do with transformation. But at the time my idea of being a chameleon — like Bowie, like Prince, like Madonna, like all the people who have really influenced me — started to get mixed up in my head. So I ran away from myself and fell prey to the scrutiny I had always avoided, because I felt no reason for anyone to believe in me. And I really need to have a reason. . . And then the album ['Eat Me, Drink Me'] also wound up being these songs that established a new, stronger, for the first time real relationship that had that sense of romance I wanted. I think you can literally hear the process of me being resurrected, as dramatic as that sounds. It's not a stance. I can totally hear that."

On touring with another of Satan's favorite bands, SLAYER:

"[It] is a natural because the one thing we share in common is this extreme, brutal dedication to saying and doing what we want and not backing down. ... Plus, we've put together the most theatrical show we've done. Bring some fire and brimstone back into rock 'n' roll. ... At least we're keeping rock 'n' roll evil."

Pantera website legal battle

The surviving members of PANTERA are involved in a legal battle with their former webmaster over the Pantera.com domain name, which once served as the band's official web site (since February 2003, PANTERA's official web site has been located at www.officialpantera.com). According to the Justia.com legal portal, which maintains a database of Federal District Court filings and dockets, the Pantera.com webmaster filed a lawsuit in the Michigan Western District Court on August 2, 2007 against the Pantera Partnership (consisting of Vincent Paul Abbott, Philip Hansen Anselmo, Rex Robert Brown, and the estate of Darell Lance ["Dimebag Darrell"] Abbott) over the domain, which has apparently been registered to Alfenas since 1998. The Pantera Partnership, meanwhile, filed a suit of their own in the Michigan Eastern District Court against Alfenas (who resides in Michigan) the very next day, August 3, 2007.

Writing on the PanteraChat.com message board (which is also apparently registered to Alfenas), the webmaster stated about the lawsuits, "Their [PANTERA's] lawyer just said, 'Give us the domains or we are going to sue you. They could have saved a lot of money if they were just nice. You don't treat someone that's done nine years' worth of work for you like a piece of shit. Especially me."

Regarding his decision to file a lawsuit before the PANTERA camp had a chance to file theirs, he wrote, "I filed first because I knew they were going to file the next day." He added, "They are going to argue trademark dilution — meaning that because I own the site, they are losing money and I am tarnishing their mark. [According to Wikipedia, "trademark dilution is a trademark law concept forbidding the use of a famous trademark in a way that would lessen its uniqueness. In most cases, trademark dilution involves an unauthorized use of another's trademark on products that do not compete with, and have little connection with, those of the trademark owner. For example, a famous trademark used by one company to refer to hair care products, might be diluted if another company began using a similar mark to refer to breakfast cereals or spark plugs."]

On the possible outcome of this legal battle, he said, "One of two things will happen: I will win and keep Pantera.com and PanteraChat.com; or I lose it all, and lots of money to lawyers with it . . . Best part is, they [PANTERA] are using two lawyers — one at $500 per hour and some intern at probably $250 per hour. This is going to drag on for a lonnnnnng time if I have anything to say about it."

When asked by one of the other registered members on the PanteraChat.com message board if the surviving members of PANTERA have offered him any money in exchange for transferring the registration to the Pantera.com domain name over to them, Alfenas replied, "PANTERA has never paid me a dollar in nine years, the entire time I've run the site."

OPETH Mainman MIKAEL ÅKERFELDT: 'We Still Mean Business'

OPETH mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt has issued the following update:

"'The Roundhouse Tapes' is coming along nicely, both the CD version and the DVD. We're working on the artwork right now and as usual it takes time. I think the CD is supposed to be out in October sometime and the DVD early next year as far as I know. I hope it's going to be worth the wait.

"Writing is coming along nicely. I have around five tracks ready, or semi-ready. I think it sounds darker than ever before (not saying this to 'sell' the record, I think it really is darker) and more versatile. I have a new ProTools rig that I use to record my demos and it really helped. Everything's faster whereas before it was literally impossible for me to demo entire songs. I have loads of material that I have yet to demo and I've also gotten stuff from Per [Wiberg, keyboards], Mendez [Martin Mendez, bass] and Fredrik [Åkesson, guitar].

"At this point I know that it's going to be a very good record, at least for my taste. There's a sense of confidence in me that I've never really felt before, and I have no idea where it's coming from. I might confuse 'confidence' with 'inspiration' but basically everytime I sit down and play, I come up with something.

"The plan for us at this point is to start rehearsing in October and record in Novemeber. We haven't talked about producers yet, I'm not sure what I want to do. I've talked with Steven Wilson [PORCUPINE TREE] but we'll see. We might do it on our own as we did the last time. We are going back into Fascination Street [in Örebro, Sweden] that's for sure...great studio! Everyone in the band is pretty psyched about this. We feel a little bit like 'underdogs' with everything that's happened, yet I hope the quality of the music will clear all doubts. We still mean business..."

As previously reported, OPETH's "The Roundhouse Tapes" will be released as a high-definition-filmed DVD in early 2008. This will also feature lots of fan interviews, band interviews, soundcheck footage and live photos, along with exclusive menu music written by mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt and keyboardist Per Wiberg.

The cover artwork for OPETH's upcoming "The Roundhouse Tapes" double CD has been posted at this location. Due on October 22 via Peaceville, "'The Roundhouse Tapes' contains a captivating OPETH performance from the Camden Roundhouse, London, UK, on November 9, 2006, and sees the band in scintillating form churning out a selection of classics from their illustrious career," according to a press release. "You know what to expect from OPETH: unrivalled composition; seamless progressive dynamics and boundless atmosphere from the mellow to the incredibly heavy, all sealed with the unmistakable vocal presence of mainman Mikael Åkerfeldt."

Commented Åkerfeldt: "The Roundhouse concert will always be a very memorable gig for us for many reasons, but most importantly it caught the band at the peak of the 'Ghost Reveries' tour. I must say we're quite tight after 18 odd months on the road supporting the record. I'm extremely pleased we got it documented and I hope it will please our beloved fans as well. As an extra bonus we've decided to collaborate with one of our past labels for this release, the legendary Peaceville Records. Here's a toast to Hammy and Lisa for helping us back in the day as well as to the new team for preserving this pleasurable memory for today's music lovers as well as for generations to come."

"The Roundhouse Tapes" tracklisting:

CD1:

01. When
02. Ghost Of Perdition
03. Under The Weeping Moon
04. Bleak
05. Face Of Melinda
06. The Night And The Silent Water

Trent Reznor vs Billy Corgan

Nine Inch Nails mainman slams Smashing Pumpkins mainman

NINE INCH NAILS frontman Trent Reznor slammed the reactivated SMASHING PUMPKINS on Friday (August 24), just hours before his group played directly before the PUMPKINS at the Leeds portion of the U.K.'s Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds festivals. Reznor took issue with PUMPKINS founder Billy Corgan not reuniting the band's original lineup, saying, "I was never a big SMASHING PUMPKINS fan back when they were the PUMPKINS, not to shit on Billy or anything but I don't hear anything that would make me want to care. I think trying to resurrect the name SMASHING PUMPKINS... it's all a bit corporate for me."

NINE INCH NAILS was also scheduled to appear right before the PUMPKINS on Sunday night (August 26) at the Reading portion of the event.

Reznor also said that he wasn't impressed with the festival's overall lineup, adding, "I heard the lineup for another day and that sounded a lot better than the lineup on the day we are playing, so I doubt you will see me on the side of the stage for FALL OUT BOY!"

NINE INCH NAILS is touring in support of its latest record, "Year Zero", while the new PUMPKINS are promoting "Zeitgeist", the first collection of all-new material under the band's name since 2000.

Aside from Corgan, drummer Jimmy Chamberlin is the only original member of the PUMPKINS performing with the group.

New Heaven And Hell live DVD preview

Four preview clips from HEAVEN AND HELL's newly released "Live At Radio City Music Hall" DVD are available for viewing at the Clear Channel Music web site. Check out the songs "Falling Off the Edge Of the World", "Shadow Of The Wind", "Die Young" and "Heaven and Hell" at this location.

Fans lucky enough to score tickets to HEAVEN AND HELL's Radio City Music Hall performance on March 30 — the concert sold out in a matter of minutes — were fortunate witnesses to the glorious return of Ronnie James Dio, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Onstage in the U.S. for the first time in 15 years, the group let loose an onslaught of iconic metal spotlighting Dio's memorable tenure with BLACK SABBATH.

"Live From Radio City Music Hall" captures the band bashing its way through some of the Dio era's best including "Mob Rules", "Die Young", "Neon Knights", "Children Of The Sea" and an epic 15-minute-plus version of "Heaven And Hell". The quartet also performed a pair of new songs — the hit single "The Devil Cried" and "Shadow Of The Wind". Both songs debuted earlier this year on "Black Sabbath: The Dio Years" (Rhino/Warner Bros. Records), the first comprehensive introduction to the Dio era's legacy. The DVD includes the entire show shot in breathtaking HD as well as a tour documentary and other bonus footage.

Prong is back

PRONG returns this October 2, 2007 with a new album and a renewed attitude, aptly reflected in the record's title, "Power of the Damager".

The hard-hitting record — the band's first studio release since 2003's "Scorpio Rising" — is easily PRONG's finest. "Power of the Damager" maintains the razor-sharp signature riffs band founder Tommy Victor has perfected over the last 20 years while harkening back to the rawness of PRONG's pioneering years as industrial metal's native son. Most notable is the record's in-your-face production, which came courtesy of Victor himself. "It's no frills," said Victor. "There's two loud crunchy stereo guitars, rumbling growling bass, and real slamming natural drums. I kept any vocal effects to a minimum. We felt that if the vocal couldn't hold its own dry and decipherable, it probably wasn't any good."

Joining Victor in the PRONG trio is bassist Monte Pittman, a PRONG veteran who does double-duty as tour guitarist for none other than MADONNA, and drummer Aaron Rossi. Though PRONG has made a career of changing with each release, the common thread in each is reality, and that carries through on "Power of the Damager".

"Everything is to the point," Victor said. "There are no disguises. It's all about experience. It's about relating to what others feel and what they may be concerned about. I think people will relate to the themes encrypted on this record do, even if they are guarded and don't let them surface. A lot of the record is about denial and how we come to grips with it. I know people, if they get honest, will relate."

The mammoth record weighs in with a dozen tracks, highlighted by the title track, which Victor began writing during a crazed, manic night alone in PRONG's rehearsal space. "I was trying to review and write riffs, but I was too preoccupied," said Victor. "I was all bottled up, experiencing a good amount of pain, anxiety, fear, and general disgust about everything." He quickly scrawled a lyric on a nearby used envelope and shoved it in his pocket, carrying it around for days. "Even though it had a self destructive, violent, and nihilistic theme, I felt philosophical, accepting, and maybe even spiritual about the state of mind I was in," he said. "I knew it was good. I threw the riffs I was reviewing on that dark night up on my computer put it to a 203bpm click track, did some programming for the demo, screamed the lyric over it, and it all fit perfectly. From all that negative crap in me came something really cool that I enjoyed doing and helped me get through. It had to be the title track."

"Power of the Damager" is PRONG's first release for MINISTRY mainman Al Jourgensen's 13th Planet Records, a relationship that was kindled while Victor played with Jourgensen in MINISTRY.

"Tommy is En Fuego!" said Jourgensen. "I love this guy! We're like two grumpy been-there-done-that bastards, but when it comes to songwriting, performing, Tommy is the shit. Not only do I love working in the studio and touring with the guy on MINISTRY, I'm totally honored and proud to have PRONG on the 13th Planet roster. 'Power of the Damager' is top-notch PRONG at its very best. Way to kick ass, Tommy. Good job."

Kataklysm - Entered Studio Last Week

The band entered the studio last week with producer and guitarist J-f Dagenais, - drummer Max Duhamel will be first laying down the drum work for "Prevail" - The recording process will last five weeks (hopefully) with vocalist Maurizio Iacono schedualed to record his vocals in September.

Maurizio's comments:
" The album is done and ready to go, although it was a breeze to write this album as things came so naturally, on the lyrics end, I worked the hardest i have in years making sure everything is where it should be,at times it was real difficult but the end result will speak for itself, Im truely convinced this album will take no prisoners, as you know we dont repeat the same record twice, this album stands on a league of its own..and im not saying its our best album, because only the fans have the right to say wether it is or not, all im saying is I listen to the songs and I wanna punch the fucking wall, that means we are on to something good."

Kataklysm has also hired the services of Producer Jason Suecof (Chimaira / Trivium / The Black Dahlia Murder) to mix the album in early January 2008, "Prevail" will also feature some guest appearances to be announced at a later date.

The highly anticipated album is scheduled for a worldwide release date of May 23rd 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Stay tuned as the band will release a few touring announcements very soon...

Helloween - New Album Cover Artwork Revealed

Dark Fortress - Found New Vocalist

German Black Metal band Dark Fortress completed their line up again with a new vocalist. A statement on the band's MySpace blog goes as follows:

"After receiving various applications we finally decided to recruit Morean of progressive death/thrashers Noneuclid as our new vocalist. Morean already appeared on "Séance" as the composer of the piece 'Incide' and the arranger of the string section used in the song 'While They Sleep'. Our decision is based on his immense musical and vocal abilities, his personage and dedication to extreme and dark music. He will be responsible for the lyrical concept of the forthcoming album, which will be completely finished by the end of October. Expect a world-wide release via Century Media Records in early 2008, followed by increased live activities."

Dark Fortress' previous vocalist Matthias "Azathoth" Jell left in May, leaving guitarist Asvargr as the only original member.

Machine Head’s Adam Duce Breaks Leg; Will Miss US Tour

In an unfortunate turn of events, Machine Head bassist Adam Duce will miss this Fall's highly-anticipated Black Tyranny Tour in the U.S. due to a broken leg suffered while dirt biking in Redding, CA. Initially thought to be nothing more than a bad sprain, x-rays later confirmed the break, which required surgery to attach a steel plate and two screws to the broken bone.

A disappointed Duce laments, "It sucks to be in this position, because we have such a killer tour set up for the end of the summer and now we'll have to find a replacement for me. I've never missed one show that this band has ever played up to this point and I never thought I would see the day when Machine Head would be playing and I wouldn't be on stage."

The band are currently rehearsing with temporary bassist candidates and are in the final stages of selecting Duce's replacement, the details of which will be announced as soon as they are determined. All Black Tyranny dates in the U.S. will go on as scheduled, and Duce will be returning for the Australian and European legs of The Black Crusade Tour, beginning with the band's Loudpark date in Japan.

The following update was posted on Metal Mind's official website:

"Vader will release their third DVD in October. The DVD entitled "...And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw" will feature the footage from the band's fantastic concert at Stodola Club in February 2007, which was the final stop of the tour promoting their latest album "Impressions in Blood". The show was filmed with 7 cameras so you can expect a truly amazing recording with great lights and dynamic shots - over 80 min. of brutal, fast, uncompromising death metal!! As a special surprise for the fans, the concert featured also a guest appearance of Orion: a member of two other great Polish metal acts: Vesania & Behemoth.

The DVD is scheduled for release on 15th October in Europe and on 5th November in USA (via MVD) and will also include: fully animated menu, band bio, discography, interview with Peter, brand new video clip "Sword of the Witcher" (taken from the forthcoming RPG game "The Witcher"), desktop images, photo gallery, weblinks, and Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound.
"And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw" DVD will be also available in a special DVD+CD limited swing case edition! It's a must have for fans of good quality metal music!

Vader was the first death metal band from behind the Iron Curtain to succeed on the world's most important music markets. Their "Morbid Reich" demo from 1990 is considered the best selling demo tape in the history of death metal. In their career, Vader did a great number of tours, made lots of festival appearances and played gigs with top metal bands such as Bolt Thrower, Deicide, Metallica, Krisiun, Malevolent Creation, Slayer, Samael, Anathema, Testament, Marduk, Cannibal Corpse, Six Feet Under, Vital Remains, and Kreator, to mention only a few… Year 2008 marks the 25th anniversary of Vader's existence."

Illdisposed - Sign With AFM Records

Danish Extreme Metal act Illdisposed have signed with AFM Records. The official press release goes as follows:

"There are band who come out and play, and there are bands who just simply rock and kick every ass! Illdisposed are maybe the coolest and most sick rockstars on earth - but they just simply rule! Since their debut album "Four Depressive Seasons" in 1993 the band did nine killer albums including their current Roadrunner release "Burn Me Wicked".

Finally Illdisposed have signed a new deal with AFM Records, who set up the release date for their 10th strike on March, 28th 2008.

Guitar player Jakob Batten comments: "I am happy to announce that we have signed a new worldwide record deal with AFM Records. This will be the beginning of a new chapter in the illdisbook and we're looking forward to work with these guys. It's time for being a priority now. For some years our albums have been limited to Europe and a few other territories - now it's time for the whole world to be able to buy our albums at their local album pusher again. The new album will contain 12 songs of groovy brutality."

At this point the band is in middle of the songwriting process, and it is obvious that we can expect something really big!"

Anathema - Tour With Porcupine Tree & News About The New Album

Guitarist Daniel "Danny" Cavanagh has posted the following update on the official Anathema website:

Porcupine Tree have kindly asked Anathema to support them on their full European tour in the autumn... This tour is still in the planning stage and will cover alot of territories.

Anathema have decided that - rather than rushing into the studio to finish the album in time for the tour, (and not being able to work with the producer we would like) - it will actually benefit the band and the new album to play the new songs live before recording them.

So you can expect to hear songs like 'Angels Walk Among Us', 'Paradigm Shift', 'Hindsight', 'Get Off, Get Out' 'Lightning Song', 'One Day', 'Summernight Horizon', 'Further', 'A Simple Mistake' and others on the tour with PT...

Our new american manager is helping to put everything in place for us to record and release this ambitious music. He is negotiating deals in the USA and advising us on our best way to go. The response from record companies has been very positive. We intend to record approximately 85 minutes of music for this album and at least 14 songs. The idea AT THE MOMENT is to release a double album called simply..

'Paradigm Shift'

Again this is not confirmed, PLANS CAN CHANGE.

A double album WILL NOT mean it will be a huge, overbearing, very long album... It may only be two groups of seven songs, split over two CD's in order to be easily digested by the listener. It definately will not be a self indulgent album and it's not a 'concept album'. Themes of life, healing and unity will run through some of the songs...

The recent shows we have played this year have been great. We had some great nights, some great audiences and great laughs. Thanks for everyone who helped make it happen. Special thanks must go out to Derek and Alx at the agency, Mick Reed, Milly Evans, Raymond, Ian, Loz, Ozzy and Hans for making it all work. We have loved playing. We look forward very much to introducing this intense, passionate new music to the public on tour with porcupine tree. We then look forward to recording what i personally think will be a wonderful record after the tour. It is the first album we have made that will be truly complete. It will change lives. Hopefully beginning with ours.

Wishing you all the best.

Danny.

PS: A full tour of TURKEY has been confirmed for october. Dates will be online very soon..

This news leads to the conclusion that "Paradigm Shift" will probably not be released before 2008 since that Porcupine Tree's European tour will end in December…

Heavy Metal In Baghdad

Acrassicauda, Iraq's only heavy metal band and stars of the forthcoming Heavy Metal In Baghdad documentary, are under fire. According to TheDeciblog.com, the group, also known as the Black Scorpion Of Baghdad, have been forced to move after receiving some very serious threats. Thus the folks at VBS.TV, the network that ran the Heavy Metal In Baghdad series, are asking for help in preparing metal-centric care packages (CDs, tapes, shirts, magazines) for the group. All international goodies must be submitted by August 25.

Heavy Metal In Baghad, a full-length documentary expanded from the previously aired series of the same title, will be premiering as an official selection at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival.

PRIMAL FEAR Slams Illegal Downloading

German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR have issued the following update:

"A newly released study by the Institute for Policy Innovation (IPI) from Texas estimates that global music piracy is costing the U.S. economic output 12.5 billion dollars and 71,060 jobs every year! It came as a shock to us to realize what extreme level illegal downloading has reached for PRIMAL FEAR and the metal scene.

"We've put months of hard work into our forthcoming CD, 'New Religion', which has cost a huge investment on our part to deliver the fans the best possible product we can. Now we've found out that according to objective statistics, four weeks before the official release our new CD it has already been downloaded illegally in numbers reaching into five digits! Those numbers are very disappointing! Still we're very proud of our new album."

PRIMAL FEAR's new album, "New Religion", is due in Europe on September 21 via Frontiers Records. A U.S. release date has not yet been announced. Guest musicians on the album include Magnus Karlsson (STARBREAKER, ALLEN/LANDE), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY, ex-HELLOWEEN) and Simone Simons (EPICA). Check out audio samples at this location.

PRIMAL FEAR recently extended its ten-year partnership with Warner/Chappell Publishing for a minimum of three more albums and five years.

PRIMAL FEAR released a "best of" collection, entitled "Metal is Forever - The Very Best of Primal Fear", in Europe on September 29 via the band's previous label, Nuclear Blast Records (with whom they parted ways earlier in the year). The album's artwork was created by Stephan Lohrmann, who was also responsible for the cover of PRIMAL FEAR's "Black Sun" album. The 16-track compilation also includes a special bonus CD of "classic metal tracks." The CD was issued in North America on April 2.

According to Zombie, the trek is expected to run through December. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.

The singer was originally in the running to open some fall dates for BLACK SABBATH offshoot band HEAVEN AND HELL, but couldn't commit to that because it was too close to the opening of his remake of the horror classic "Halloween".

Watch Rob Zombie's six-minute interview with KTLA (which aired yesterday morning) at this location (Note: You must disable your pop-up blocker in order to view video).

ROB ZOMBIE's first-ever live album, entitled simply "Zombie - Live" (cover), is scheduled for release on October 23. As previously reported, Zombie is putting together a WHITE ZOMBIE box set containing "everything we ever recorded," according to the singer. "I am currently transferring all the early shit from the original tapes," he previously said. "No remixing going on here — everything will be as it was originally recorded. Don't know when this box set will be available, but it is slowly moving forward. This will be the final word on WHITE ZOMBIE."

ROB ZOMBIE's first-ever career retrospective, "Past, Present & Future", has sold more than a million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The two-disc set, which was released in September 2003 through Geffen Records, contains a CD of 19 digitally remastered selections and a DVD of 10 music videos, including three that were previously unreleased.

Two People Dead, More Than 80 Arrested At New Jersey OZZFEST

According to New York's WABC-TV, two people died of overdoses during the day-long Ozzfest concert at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, New Jersey Thursday (August 16), which also resulted in more than 80 arrests for underage drinking.

Police say one of those who died, a 27-year-old man, had to be resuscitated several times after he lost his pulse and heartbeat.

That man is believed to have ingested a combination of alcohol, illegal drugs and caffeine.

He reportedly collapsed and was revived several times by medics before being taken to Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel for emergency surgery. He was pronounced dead Friday morning, according to WNBC.com's Brian Thompson.

Meanwhile, more than 80 people were arrested at the concert, including several for underage drinking and drug possession, as well as some for assault, resisting arrest and defiant trespass.

Authorities say the charges are similar to those recorded at other recent PNC concerts, including 92 arrests at an O.A.R. concert last Saturday and 54 at an INCUBUS show before that.

Black Sabbath bassist investing in football club?

According to Digital Spy, BLACK SABBATH/HEAVEN AND HELL bassist Geezer Butler is considering buying into a Premiership football club.

The heavy metal rocker is well known for his love of Aston Villa FC, and Butler has expressed an interest in investing some money into the West Midlands club.

Butler commented "I never miss a game on television in the US where I live and I'm looking into into investing 60 million...of what I can't say."

The bassist wouldn't be the first musician to switch from the world of popular music to football investment, with Elton John becoming chairman of Watford FC back in 1976
